In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor said the ruling affirms that anyone who takes innocent lives will ultimately face justice, no matter how long it takes.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier sentenced the four convicts to death by hanging after finding them guilty in the terrorism case filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Reacting to the verdict, Aiyedatiwa described the judgment as a triumph for justice, the rule of law, and the families of victims affected by the deadly attack, which left dozens dead and several others injured.

He praised the efforts of investigators, prosecutors, and the judiciary for ensuring that those responsible for the attack were held accountable.

According to him, the ruling reflects the government’s determination to reject terrorism, violence, and any form of attack against innocent citizens.

“This judgment sends a strong message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law, regardless of how long it takes to secure justice,” he said.

The governor also appreciated the people of Owo and members of the Catholic community for maintaining peace despite the trauma caused by the incident.

He assured residents that his administration would continue working with security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance public safety, and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Aiyedatiwa noted that while no court decision can bring back the lives lost, the ruling provides some closure for grieving families and strengthens confidence in the justice system.

He prayed for the souls of the deceased and asked God to comfort their families and loved ones.
