Akpabio Breaks Silence: “Senator Musa Was Never Embarrassed By The Senate

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted reports suggesting that Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) was embarrassed during a recent Senate session.

In a statement personally signed and released on Friday, Akpabio described the circulating social media narratives—particularly one from Linda Ikeji’s Blog—as “false and misleading.”

According to the Senate President, the incident in question was mischaracterized and taken out of context.

He stated:

“I have seen reports circulating online claiming that Senator Sani Musa was ‘rubbished’ on the Senate floor for allegedly failing to define the word ‘harmonised.’ These claims are completely untrue.”

Clarifying what transpired, Akpabio explained that Senator Musa was called upon to speak just as Senator Abdul Ningi raised a point of order that required immediate procedural response under the Senate rules.

“The session proceeded smoothly, with no breach of decorum. Senator Musa was neither embarrassed nor at a loss for words,” he affirmed.

Akpabio went on to commend Senator Musa’s contributions, particularly highlighting his role as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance and the Conference Committee that harmonised the Tax Reform Bills—an achievement praised across both legislative chambers.

“The Nigerian Senate upholds values of respect, discipline, and integrity. While public engagement is welcome, media outlets must ensure their reporting is accurate and not driven by sensationalism,” he cautioned.

He concluded by urging media organisations to embrace responsible journalism when covering the affairs of the National Assembly.
