Akpabio Explains Why Wike’s Demolition Of Structures In Abuja Cannot Be StoppedSenate President, Godswill Akpabio, has explained that the National Assembly cannot prevent the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from demolishing structures in Abuja, as some of these demolitions are court-ordered.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Naija News reports that Wike has faced widespread criticism over the demolition of houses in the capital, especially after a construction company, Paullosa Nigeria Limited, raised an alarm about a demolition notice issued by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) targeting its estate in the Lifecamp area of Abuja.

The General Manager of Paullosa Estate, Vincent Enoghase, told journalists that the FCDA had demanded N10 million for a Right of Occupancy, which the company paid but had not received a receipt before the quit notice was issued.

Additionally, social media critic Vincent Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, shared a video alleging that Wike had revoked the land titles for the estate and reissued them to Saravera Nigeria Limited, a company linked to Kingsley Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives representing Obio/Akpor Constituency. VeryDarkMan also claimed the original landowner, a first cadet of the Nigerian Army who passed away four years ago, was being wronged and called on security agencies to intervene.

On Thursday, Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, raised the matter in the Senate, arguing that the demolitions were causing significant hardship to affected residents. She appealed to the Senate to intervene and halt further demolitions, particularly for estates already marked for demolition.

Seconding the motion, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called for a halt to the demolitions until the Senate could investigate the issue further.

However, Akpabio clarified that the National Assembly could not stop all the demolitions, as some were ordered by the courts. He directed Wike to proceed with demolitions ordered by the courts to avoid contempt charges for disobeying court rulings.
