Akpako Rescue No More! Okpebholo Reveals New Nickname Residents Give Him
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed satisfaction with what he described as a positive change in the way residents receive him in public, claiming that people now welcome him with affectionate nicknames rather than throwing sachet water at him.
The governor disclosed that his nickname had reportedly changed from “Akpako Rescue” to “Okpe’s Baby” following a recent encounter with residents along Sapele Road.
Speaking during a live broadcast on Saturday, Okpebholo recounted how he walked along the road and received friendly reactions from members of the public.
According to the governor, the warm reception gives him happiness because he can now move freely among residents without facing the kind of hostile treatment he previously experienced.
He said the change in public attitude was encouraging, noting that people now call him sweet names instead of expressing their displeasure by throwing sachet water at him.
Okpebholo also reaffirmed his confidence in President Bola Tinubu, attributing his support for the president to the economic reforms introduced by the Federal Government.
Speaking during a meeting with supporters, the Edo governor argued that some of the policies were beginning to produce positive results, particularly in the prices of commodities and developments in the foreign exchange market.
He urged business owners, traders and members of the public to assess the changes in the economy since Tinubu assumed office, insisting that the impact of the reforms was becoming noticeable.
The governor specifically pointed to the naira’s performance against the US dollar, claiming that the exchange rate had become relatively stable and that the local currency had recorded improvements.
He further argued that the gradual decline in dollar prices challenged the long-held belief that commodity and market prices in Nigeria only increase and rarely come down.
Okpebholo maintained that the developments were among the reasons he remained confident in Tinubu’s administration and its economic policies.
