Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Olumide Akpata, has urged the Court of Appeal to provide a detailed and transparent explanation regarding the controversy surrounding its ruling on the Kano governorship election dispute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified the election of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
However, reports emerged that the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment, released on Tuesday, contradicted the ruling delivered in open court last Friday.
The contradiction sparked outrage among Governor Yusuf’s supporters, leading to widespread protests against the judiciary.
Demanding clarification from the Appeal Court, Akpata stated, “The Nigerian judiciary is once again in the spotlight for unfortunate reasons. The recent discrepancy in the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the Kano State gubernatorial appeal has further exposed the systemic challenges plaguing our judicial system.
“As the Head of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem must provide a clear and comprehensive explanation of the immediate and underlying causes of this embarrassing situation. Addressing these concerns is essential to restoring public confidence and credibility in the judiciary.”
