Akume Tells Atiku And Northern Politicians To Set Aside 2027 Presidential HopesThe Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other northern political heavyweights to set aside their ambitions for the 2027 presidency and instead focus on 2031. Speaking on a TVC programme on Sunday, Akume emphasized that the 2027 presidential election should be an opportunity for a southern candidate, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to complete his second term.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Akume specifically addressed Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), advising him to abandon any plans for contesting in 2027. He stated that if it is God’s will for Atiku to become president, he could achieve it even at the age of 90, implying that there is no rush to seek the office in 2027.

The former governor of Benue State also expressed confidence that President Tinubu has maintained goodwill among Nigerians, despite controversies surrounding the recent tax reforms and other economic measures implemented during the first 17 months of his administration.

Akume further defended the tax reform bills, describing them as forward-thinking legislation that would benefit the country once passed by the National Assembly. He urged Nigerians to support the bills as they go through the legislative process, highlighting their potential to positively impact the nation’s future.

In his remarks, Akume reiterated that as a southerner, President Tinubu should be allowed to serve a second term, and that northern politicians with presidential aspirations in 2027 should look beyond that year, with hopes for 2031.
