Sources informed SaharaReporters that Governor Eno has allegedly used his position to obscure the facts about Ikott’s academic qualifications. In April 2024, a petition was submitted to the state police commissioner, but the investigation was reportedly suppressed by the governor.

The University of Calabar’s Registrar, Gabriel O. Egbe, confirmed to a U.S. attorney that Ikott’s degree was forged. The university’s letter, dated July 23, 2024, and addressed to U.S. Attorney Sara Sass, states that Ikott had incomplete courses and that the claimed certificate did not originate from the university.

Despite the confirmation of the certificate’s falsification, the investigation faced obstacles. Sources indicated that the governor has also attempted to manipulate university records.

Ikott, who is Governor Eno’s favored candidate for the Eket Local Government chairmanship in the upcoming October elections, has already been endorsed by Eno. Following the publication of this information, agents reportedly detained a Blueprint reporter but released her after realizing the news might spread widely. The reporter has faced intimidation and threats, according to sources.
