Alaafin Returns!” – Governor Makinde Presents Oba Owoade As 46th Monarch In Grand Ceremony

The grand coronation ceremony took place on Saturday at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, drawing a host of distinguished guests and traditional rulers.

Among the prominent dignitaries in attendance were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; Orile-Igbon of Ilegbon, Francis Alao; Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola; the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams; Senator Yinus Akintunde (Oyo Central); Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and Osun State’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi.

Other notable figures included the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, and Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, among many others.

While addressing the large gathering, Governor Makinde recounted:
“On January 10th, 2025, I signed off on the Oyo Mesi’s recommendation of Oba Akeem Owoade as the next Alaafin. By January 13th, I presented him with his certificate of office. My duty was completed then, but today, I officially present our Alaafin to the world.”

Taking a swipe at skeptics, he added:
“For those who claimed they hadn’t seen or heard—those running from pillar to post—come and behold the Alaafin of Oyo!”

In his acceptance speech, Oba Owoade expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received and pledged his loyalty to the people:
“I promise to stand by you always, just as you have always stood by me.”
