Alex Otti Appeals To Traditional Rulers Before Nationwide Protest

In a statewide address on Tuesday morning, Otti called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community figures to advise their followers against engaging in violent actions. He urged the youth of Abia to exercise restraint and communicate their demands through dialogue, assuring that his administration is committed to protecting the population from harm and destruction.

While acknowledging Nigerians’ right to protest against unfavorable conditions, Otti expressed concern that the intentions of the protest organizers might be compromised if opportunists and criminals exploit the situation to incite chaos.

The governor emphasized the significant investments his administration has made in infrastructure in Aba and Umuahia, stressing the need to safeguard these assets from potential destruction by those seeking to exploit the protest for harmful purposes.

Otti highlighted that Abia State needs a steadfast commitment to peace and sustainable development rather than descending into disorder. He acknowledged that while the federal government’s economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, may not have fully met their intended goals, he urged the youth to pursue their demands peacefully.

Additionally, Otti confirmed that Abia State civil servants have received their April salaries as promised, and he appealed to the people of Abia to reject violence.
