The cleric was found guilty on three counts relating to unlawful sexual intercourse involving 13-year-old minors.

According to the court, the offences were committed within the church mission house located in the Agah area of Ganmo, where Olayinka served as the spiritual leader.

In addition to the life sentence, the court handed him a 14-year jail term for arranging illegal abortions for some of the victims and allegedly threatening them to prevent the abuse from being reported.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Hammed Aliyu Gegele ruled that the convict abused his position as a religious leader and subjected the victims to both physical and emotional trauma.

The judge described Olayinka as “a paedophile and philanderer,” condemning his actions as unacceptable and harmful to society.

The cleric had been arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The charges were filed under provisions of the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms Act, and the Kwara State Child Rights Law 2006.

During the proceedings, the prosecution presented 12 witnesses and tendered several exhibits before the court, with the case led by Chief State Counsel, Issa Zakari.

Justice Gegele held that the prosecution successfully proved the allegations relating to unlawful sexual intercourse, rape, and illegal abortion.

However, the court cleared the defendant of the charge of bigamy, ruling that the allegation was not sufficiently established by the prosecution.
