A former chef to Akinwunmi Ambode, the ex-governor of Lagos State, Victor Abayomi, is currently in prison custody over allegations of pilfering valuable items worth millions of naira from the former governor’s residence in Ikoyi.
Abayomi found himself before the Yaba Magistrate court after the State Security Service (SSS) brought two charges against him, involving conspiracy and theft. During the arraignment, Joshua Babalola, the prosecuting counsel from the SSS, informed the court that Abayomi, along with others who are still at large, conspired to commit the offenses at the ex-governor’s Ikoyi residence.
The prosecutor revealed that the accused fled to Old Garage, Molorundo Local Government Area, Osun State, where he was apprehended on March 7, 2024. Babalola emphasized that Abayomi’s actions contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In her ruling, the Magistrate ordered the remand of Abayomi at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for a period of 30 days. The case has been adjourned until April 8, 2024, for further investigation and the presentation of facts.
