The group has raised concerns that the government is not treating the matter with the seriousness it warrants and accuses it of politicizing the security situation. Tukur Sabi Gusau, the Chairman of ZCRC, expressed these views in a statement in Abuja. He cited video clips and photos that appeared to show state government officials negotiating with leaders of the bandits.

Gusau stated, “This contradicts the government’s earlier position of opposing negotiations with criminals. It is regrettable that the government led by Dauda Lawal appears to be adopting a hypocritical stance. We continue to urge the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the state as the only remaining option if they are genuinely committed to addressing the situation.”

He further noted that Governor Lawal’s leadership has shown signs of failure in terms of readiness, preparedness, or the political will to effectively manage the crisis. The recent footage of a state commissioner negotiating with the bandits, according to Gusau, highlights the governor’s indecision, inconsistency, and instability in handling the state’s crisis.

Gusau concluded by expressing sympathy for the families of the kidnapped students, who have been living in anguish and desperation. These families have repeatedly called on the government to take swift and decisive action to rescue their loved ones, but their pleas have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.
