With the November 8, 2025, governorship election drawing closer, the party is struggling to maintain unity amid deepening divisions. Reports indicate that Nicholas Ukachukwu emerged as the party’s flagbearer, but rather than uniting the APC, the outcome has further fractured its ranks at a critical political moment.
One of the most notable departures came on April 11, 2025, when Oduenyi Ifeanyi, Chairman of APC Ward I in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, resigned from both his executive role and the party entirely.
In his resignation letter, Ifeanyi expressed frustration over the direction the party was heading, stating that APC’s structure in Anambra was “rapidly crumbling.”
“This is to inform you that I have resigned as an EXCO and member of APC Ward I Nimo, from today being the 11th of April, 2025. Thank you for your cooperation,” the letter read.
His resignation is widely seen as symptomatic of a larger wave of discontent within the APC’s grassroots base.
Ifeanyi also pointed to the recent defection of Paul Chukwuma to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) as evidence of the party’s deteriorating strength in the state.
“The APC structure in Anambra is fast collapsing to YPP,” he warned, hinting that more defections may be imminent.
With political tensions mounting, observers caution that unless the APC resolves its internal rifts swiftly, it risks losing relevance in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes governorship contest.
