Nigerians Left Starstruck As NNPCL Reveals The Real Reason Behind PH Refinery Operation Delay Written By Oshiobugie John- The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has admitted facing challenges that have delayed the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, explained that the rehabilitation project, being a brownfield initiative, encountered significant risks and complexities during its execution.

According to Soneye, the company achieved a major milestone with the mechanical completion of the refinery and subsequently began commissioning critical equipment and process units.

He stated: “You may recall that the mechanical completion of the Port Harcourt Refinery Complex (PHRC) revamp was successfully achieved several months ago, marking a significant milestone in the project. Following this, we began the commissioning of critical equipment and process units.

“However, as is common with brownfield projects of this scale and complexity, we encountered unforeseen risks and challenges.

“These issues have since been effectively resolved, and commissioning activities have resumed.

“Work is being carried out around the clock to ensure the successful completion of this critical project.”

When pressed for a specific timeline for the project’s conclusion, Soneye simply replied, “Shortly.” The rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery is seen as a critical initiative in boosting Nigeria’s refining capacity and reducing dependency on fuel imports.
