Another Victory For Justice!” – Umeh Hails NASS Over New Southeast State Approval

Speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, Umeh described the move as a landmark decision rooted in justice, equity, and fairness. He emphasized that it represents a crucial step toward addressing decades of political and structural marginalization in the Southeast.

Umeh highlighted that, out of the 55 nationwide requests for new states, the Joint Committee unanimously prioritized the Southeast, viewing the approval as a long-overdue acknowledgment of the region’s historical exclusion from state creation.

He further stated that once the Southeast receives its additional state, future state creation requests would be evaluated equitably across all six geopolitical zones.

“The call for one more state in the Southeast is not new. Back in 2014, at the National Conference, all 492 delegates unanimously agreed that the Southeast deserved an additional state before any other region’s demands would be considered. What the Senate and House of Representatives did at last weekend’s retreat is yet another affirmation of the justice of this cause,” Umeh said.
