Anthony Joshua Sends Strong Message Ahead Of Tyson Fury Clash: I’m Going To Keep A Calm Head
Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has vowed to remain composed and avoid making emotional decisions when he faces fellow British boxer Tyson Fury in their highly anticipated heavyweight showdown scheduled for December 11.
The fight is set to take place at the sold-out Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, with Netflix expected to broadcast the bout live to audiences worldwide.
Speaking to The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, Joshua explained that maintaining a calm and disciplined approach would be crucial against Fury, particularly given the lessons he believes can be drawn from the latter’s previous encounters with American heavyweight Deontay Wilder.
Joshua pointed out that Wilder’s eagerness to finish Fury after hurting him often resulted in significant energy expenditure, allowing Fury to withstand the pressure and recover during their fights.
According to Joshua, Wilder sometimes allowed the intensity of the contest to influence his decisions, potentially missing opportunities to manage his energy and execute his strategy more effectively.
The British boxer suggested that he would avoid making the same mistake when he steps into the ring against Fury, insisting that frustration and the desire for an early knockout would not dictate his tactics.
Joshua emphasised that remaining patient and composed would be central to his approach, rather than rushing into exchanges in an attempt to secure a quick victory.
The December 11 encounter is expected to attract considerable global attention, bringing together two of Britain’s most prominent heavyweight boxers in a contest that could prove significant for both men’s careers.
Joshua enters the fight with a professional record of 30 victories, four defeats and 27 knockouts, while Fury has recorded 36 wins, two losses and one draw, with 25 victories coming by knockout.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Joshua’s comments suggest that tactical discipline and emotional control will be key elements of his preparation as he gets ready to face Fury in one of boxing’s most anticipated heavyweight encounters.
