Anthony Joshua Set For Massive Payday As Tyson Fury Fight Draws Near
Anthony Joshua is reportedly set to earn £75 million from his long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the highly anticipated British heavyweight clash is expected to generate a combined purse of around £150 million, with Joshua and Fury reportedly receiving equal shares.
The reported £75 million payout would represent the biggest single-fight purse of Joshua’s professional career and could make the contest one of the most lucrative events in British boxing history.
Joshua and Fury have made several attempts to arrange a fight over the years. The bout was initially targeted for 2021 when both fighters held major world titles, but plans for a two-fight series collapsed after Fury was required to honour his contractual obligation to face Deontay Wilder for a third time.
Both fighters later faced Oleksandr Usyk, with the Ukrainian defeating Fury twice and also beating Joshua twice.
The December 11 contest will bring Joshua and Fury together in Cardiff, with reports suggesting that the financial package could surpass the previous career-best earnings of both boxers, estimated at about £65 million from a single fight.
Joshua could reportedly have earned more by staging the contest in the United States, where venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York had previously been considered. However, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion insisted that the fight should take place in Britain.
Explaining his preference, Joshua said British boxing had played a major role in transforming his life and recalled his early days at Finchley ABC and later with Team GB in Sheffield.
He emphasised that his decision was driven by his connection to British boxing and not solely by financial considerations, saying, “It was the UK or nothing.”
The December 11 encounter could also have significant implications for both fighters’ careers, with Joshua and Fury now in the latter stages of their professional journeys. The fight is reportedly being staged without a rematch clause, meaning either man could potentially be making his final appearance in the ring.
