Anyanwu Fires Back: ‘PDP Isn’t Run By Governors Forum!’ In Ude-Okoye Showdown

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has rejected the endorsement of his rival by the PDP Governors’ Forum, asserting that he remains the rightful holder of the position.

In an interview with Vanguard on Friday night, Anyanwu emphasized that the Governors’ Forum is not an official organ of the PDP, rendering its endorsement legally insignificant. He dismissed the forum’s communique from its recent meeting, claiming it was driven by political interests aimed at favoring certain party members.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum is not a recognized organ of our party, so their communique holds no weight. The fact remains: I am the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party,” Anyanwu stated.

He further described the forum as merely a pressure group within the party, lacking constitutional authority to determine leadership roles. “The Governors’ Forum is just one of many pressure groups in the PDP. Their communique reflects political bias, likely influenced to appease Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State,” he added.

Anyanwu highlighted a recent Appeal Court ruling in his favor, which granted a stay of execution on an earlier judgment seeking his removal from office. “The Constitution of Nigeria and our judiciary are supreme in such matters. The Appeal Court’s decision is clearly in my favor, so there’s no cause for concern,” he asserted.

Reaffirming his commitment to the court’s order, Anyanwu stressed that any attempt to recognize another individual as National Secretary would lack legal standing. He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) still officially recognizes him as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
