APC Confident Of Tinubu’s Victory In 2027 ElectionThe ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned opposition parties in Nigeria not to get too carried away by the defeat of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent U.S. presidential election, stressing that President Bola Tinubu will emerge victorious in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In the U.S. election, former President Donald Trump made a remarkable comeback, defeating Harris and becoming the 47th President of the United States, the oldest person ever to win the White House at 78 years old. The result sent shockwaves around the world, drawing significant attention to the dynamics of global elections.
Reacting to the U.S. outcome, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifo, praised the U.S. election as a true test of democracy, highlighting the lessons Nigeria could learn from the process. He noted how the American public seemingly disregarded the incumbency factor, which remains a powerful force in African elections, particularly in Nigeria.
Similarly, the spokesman for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, questioned when Nigeria would finally end the era of leaders using incumbency and security forces to stifle opposition. He remarked on the complexity of the U.S. electoral system, which has evolved over time.
However, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim cautioned the opposition not to read too much into the U.S. results, pointing out the significant differences in electoral processes between the two countries. Ibrahim insisted that the incumbency factor does not always guarantee success, citing the 2015 defeat of then-incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan by the opposition’s Muhammadu Buhari, when the people spoke with one voice.
Ibrahim expressed confidence that by 2027, Nigerians would begin to see the positive effects of President Tinubu’s economic reforms, which would likely generate public support for his re-election. He emphasized that the APC is not worried about the opposition’s claims and warned that Nigeria’s future would not be left in the hands of parties still grappling with leadership challenges.
“The reforms this administration is putting in place may be painful at first, but we will begin to see the rewards by 2026 and 2027,” Ibrahim said. “That’s when people will start applauding the president and the party. It will be very difficult for anyone, particularly an outsider who has failed the country before, to defeat the incumbent.”
He further assured that the APC is not complacent, adding, “We are strategizing for the future. When the time comes, we will be ready to cross the bridge, and I assure you, the APC will not be caught napping.
