APC Convention Drama: Masari Reveals Why Some Aspirants Were Shut Out

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Convention Central Coordination Committee, Aminu Masari, has justified the party’s decision not to sell nomination forms to certain aspirants.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday during the APC World Media Briefing ahead of the party’s 8th National Convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, Masari alleged that those publicly complaining about being denied forms are acting to create instability within the ruling party.

The former Katsina State governor explained that the APC operates a zoning arrangement, where party positions are allocated across different regions in line with the federal character principle.

According to him, nomination forms were only issued to aspirants contesting positions designated to their respective zones.

“APC is a responsible party, and all positions are zoned in line with federal character. Those who applied for positions allocated to their zones were given forms. However, when someone from a different zone attempts to contest for a position not meant for their region, it raises suspicion,” he said.

Masari added that such actions are often aimed at causing confusion within the party, insisting that the APC would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt its internal structure.

He argued that aspirants seeking positions outside their designated zones cannot claim unfair treatment, stressing that zoning remains a fundamental principle guiding the party’s organisation.

The APC chieftain also noted that the party was not aware of any legal action over the issue, adding that it would respond appropriately if served with court processes.

The briefing was attended by several top government officials and party leaders, including the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Pius Ayim; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, among other party stakeholders.
