On August 20, 2024, the APC alerted security agencies to Aigbebaku’s plans to disrupt the forthcoming September 21 Governorship Election in Edo State. Despite the gravity of these allegations, no action has been taken against Aigbebaku, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the response from security agencies.
Aigbebaku, known for his notorious history of thuggery and violence, is accused of orchestrating attacks aimed at preventing the people of Owan West Local Government Area from benefiting from Chief Ohimai’s philanthropic activities. These activities are intended to provide relief to the community.
The situation escalated on August 31, 2024, when Kelvin Omon Odion, a member of the People Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly attacked the wife of the APC Ward 2 chairman, Mrs. Collins Amoni. During the assault, her headgear was burned, and her mobile phone was stolen. The violence continued as the attackers targeted the home of David Iruedo, the APC Ward 2 Organizing Secretary. The assault included the brutal treatment of Iruedo’s family—his seven-month-old baby was thrown against a wall, his wife was stripped naked, and his bar was vandalized. Iruedo and Enurance Aidokhai sustained severe injuries.
Witnesses have identified several individuals involved in these attacks, including Tunde Akele, Kelvin Ojo Omon, Lucky Omon, Lucy Unuigbe, and others, who were reportedly transported to the scene in vehicles associated with Aigbebaku.
The APC is demanding the immediate arrest of Blessing Aigbebaku and all those identified in these violent incidents. The party emphasizes its commitment to a peaceful electoral process but warns that it will not hesitate to defend its members if security agencies fail to act against Aigbebaku and his alleged thugs.
This call to action underscores the urgent need for law enforcement to address these serious allegations and ensure a safe and fair electoral environment in Edo State.
