In preparation for the 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum has emphasized the importance of maintaining the agreed-upon zoning arrangement. Led by Chairman Chief Innocent Obi, the forum, comprised of elders from all 21 Local Government Areas, convened in Awka and affirmed that any attempt to disrupt this zoning framework would be risky.
Chief Obi highlighted their grassroots mobilization efforts and commitment to resolving potential electoral issues. The elders firmly advocated for upholding the zoning principle, particularly favoring Anambra South for the upcoming election. They stressed the significance of honoring agreements, citing repercussions faced by parties in past elections for disregarding zoning guidelines.
Mr. Okey Chukwuogo, another elder, underscored that the zoning initiative originated with former Governor Peter Obi, who secured endorsements from various stakeholders including town unions and traditional rulers. He asserted that zoning, though acknowledged, does not guarantee power but reflects a shared understanding that deserves respect.
Overall, the APC Elders Forum expressed readiness to align with party decisions while urging adherence to established zoning norms for a smooth electoral process in Anambra State.
