Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, the Director of the APC New Media Campaign Council, released a statement highlighting the alleged misuse of state resources. According to Omo-Ikirodah, more than three groups have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding Obaseki’s financial activities, which they claim prioritize political ambitions over the welfare of Edo State residents.

“Governor Obaseki has plunged Edo into alarming debt this year alone, with no tangible benefits to the citizens. Instead of focusing on the development of our state, he has opened the state vaults to fund political campaigns,” Omo-Ikirodah stated.

The APC claims that critical areas such as the Government Reservation Area (GRA) have been neglected, leading to poor infrastructure and a high cost of living. “The GRA, once a symbol of pride, is now often referred to as ‘River GRA’ due to its impassable roads. This neglect is evident across local governments, with funds meant for agriculture and infrastructure disappearing,” Omo-Ikirodah added.

The statement also calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce strict regulations on campaign financing to prevent further misuse of public funds. “INEC must step in to ensure that the upcoming election is decided by the people, not by the financial power of a few,” said Omo-Ikirodah.

The APC’s accusations come at a crucial time, with Edo State residents increasingly concerned about rising living costs and deteriorating infrastructure. The party has urged Governor Obaseki to prioritize the state’s development needs over political ambitions, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

Governor Obaseki has yet to respond to these allegations. As the political climate in Edo State heats up, all eyes are on how these accusations will impact the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
