APC To Take Action Against Obono-Obla Over Criticisms Of Party Chairman And Insults Towards Governor

The Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to take disciplinary action against Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential aide, following his calls for the removal of the party’s chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Eba, and state governor, Senator Bassey Otu.

In a statement issued by Eba, the party disavowed Obono-Obla’s actions, accusing him of inciting division within the party. Obono-Obla had threatened legal action to remove Eba, citing various allegations and petitioning both the APC national headquarters and the state governor for Eba’s removal.

Obono-Obla claimed that Eba had used social media to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration and accused Eba of mishandling funds and failing to distribute 10,000 bags of rice intended for vulnerable citizens, alleging that only about 800 bags were distributed to party loyalists.

In response, APC Publicity Secretary Hon. Edem stated that Obono-Obla’s accusations were rooted in frustration due to his unsuccessful attempts to secure state and federal appointments. The party accused him of engaging in blackmail and attempting to disrupt the ongoing peaceful process for local government elections.

The party’s statement emphasized that Obono-Obla’s actions, including unauthorized attempts to convene meetings and his insults towards the party and the governor, will result in disciplinary measures. The party also defended Eba’s comments on social media, clarifying that they were intended as a passionate appeal rather than disrespect.
