Aregbesola’s Shocking Exit From APC: Explosive Details Of His Expulsion Letter Revealed

New details have emerged regarding the recent withdrawal of former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, and his supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealing that his departure was triggered by an official expulsion letter from the party.

Aregbesola’s relationship with the Osun APC has been tense since the 2022 governorship election, when he and his faction openly opposed the re-election bid of his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola. Accusing Oyetola of betrayal, Aregbesola formed the ‘The Osun Progressives (TOP)’, a pressure group that opposed Oyetola’s leadership and played a role in his electoral defeat.

Following the dissolution of TOP into the ‘Omoluabi Progressives’ caucus, internal party divisions continued to fester. In October 2024, the Osun APC suspended Aregbesola for alleged anti-party activities. A resolution signed by the State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, accused him of creating a splinter group that undermined party unity.

According to Vanguard, on January 24, 2025, the APC National Secretariat formally endorsed the expulsion, sending a letter to Aregbesola’s Ilesa residence. Dated January 7, 2025, the letter officially communicated his expulsion from the party.

The letter, signed by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Kamoru Alao, stated: “We write to formally bring to your attention the findings and resolution arising from the disciplinary process initiated concerning allegations of anti-party activities… SEC has resolved to accept the recommendation of your immediate expulsion from the All Progressives Congress. As a result, with the approval of your expulsion, you cease to be a member of APC.”

While acknowledging Aregbesola’s past contributions, the letter firmly instructed him to comply with the decision. The Osun APC leadership emphasized that Aregbesola’s actions had deepened internal party divisions, with his influence on splinter factions creating significant discord.

Sources suggest that Aregbesola’s exit from the APC and formation of a new political platform was a strategic move to save face after being informed of the expulsion.
