Arise TV’s Sommie Maduagwu Reveals Why She Ignored Her Father’s Plea and Returned To Nigeria

Obi Maduagwu, uncle to the late Arise TV news anchor Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, has revealed that her father had strongly advised her against returning to Nigeria. Somtochukwu, aged 29, tragically lost her life after sustaining fatal injuries from a fall off a three-storey building in the Katampe area of Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with Leadership, Maduagwu explained that before her return to Nigeria, Somtochukwu had lived and worked in the United Kingdom alongside her two younger siblings.
Despite her father’s concerns, she was determined to come back home. Obi, who was the first family member contacted after the tragedy, said he had the painful duty of confirming the news and breaking it to her parents, who both work demanding jobs—her father on an offshore oil rig and her mother at another firm.
“She was strong-willed,” Obi recalled. “As the first daughter, once she made up her mind, there was no stopping her. She studied in the UK, worked there for two years, and then told her father she was coming back.
He protested, asking what she hoped to achieve, but she stood her ground, insisting she wanted to make Nigeria work. While many were leaving the country with foreign passports, Somtochukwu chose to return and contribute. That was her conviction and the bold spirit that defined her life.”
