A suspected armed robber known by his nickname, Bob Jay, tragically lost his life on Friday night, July 12, after allegedly falling into an open well following a raid on a student hostel at the University of Cross River State’s Okuku campus, known as Unicross.
According to reports, the robbers, believed to be part of a gang, attacked students at approximately midnight, stealing laptops, phones, and cash. As they attempted to flee the scene with their plunder, one of the suspects accidentally fell into the well and drowned.
The incident remained undiscovered until dawn when students went to fetch water and spotted the man’s lifeless body inside the well. They immediately raised an alarm, prompting local residents to retrieve the body.
Upon closer inspection, students reportedly identified the deceased as one of the assailants. Local residents familiar with him confirmed his identity as Bob Jay from Mbube, a neighboring village.
Authorities were notified, and the police subsequently arrived to remove the body from the scene.”
