FCT Police Commissioner CP Olatunji Disu announced the arrests during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday. The suspects were detained following a raid on their hideout in the Kweri forest, which straddles the borders of Kaduna and the FCT.
Disu stated that the suspects were linked to several armed robberies and kidnappings, as well as attacks on ECWA pastors’ residences in Dnapoyi village, Mpape village, and Daupe village. The arrested suspects are identified as Hussaini Adamu, Yau Adamu, and Aminu Adamu, all reportedly part of a gang led by Gwan Umar, who operates from the Kaduna forest.
The suspects have confessed to the murder of Comfort Oyanga and admitted their involvement in the abduction of Felix Sanyo and Julius Oyanga in Daupe, where the victims’ families paid an N80 million ransom. Additionally, they kidnapped Dimas Maisamari in Mpape along with other victims, all of whom were taken to the Kaduna forest.
Disu noted that the suspects had extorted millions of naira in ransom from the families of their victims and confirmed that efforts are underway to track down additional kidnappers listed by the command.
Recovered from the suspects were two AK-47 rifles, 85 rounds of live 7.62 ammunition, three AK-47 magazines, and one locally-made firearm.
