Arrest Made In Case Of internet Fraud, Car Theft, And Missing N30m

Operatives from the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, have apprehended Joshua Olawuyi, a suspected internet fraudster, on allegations of fraudulently acquiring a vehicle and embezzling N30 million.

Confirming the arrest, Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP. Umma Ayuba, stated that the command, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatoye Durosinmi, acted upon a petition lodged by the complainant.

According to Ayuba, the complainant, Adesuwa Ogizie, a licensed car dealer based in the US, reported that Olawuyi approached her in 2016 expressing interest in purchasing a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 worth N30 million. However, Olawuyi allegedly misled her by claiming his brother, Jude Hanslem, would make the payment on his behalf.

Subsequently, upon delivery of the vehicle to Olawuyi in Nigeria, Ogizie discovered that the funds transferred to her account were fraudulently obtained.

Ayuba disclosed that a team of detectives, led by SP Abass Gadzama (O/C ZAKU), swiftly acted on the case, leading to Olawuyi’s arrest. During interrogation, Olawuyi purportedly confessed to the crime, attributing his actions to involvement in internet fraud. He further admitted to selling the Mercedes Benz GLE 350 and converting the proceeds.

The investigation remains ongoing, with assurances from Ayuba that further details will be revealed, and Olawuyi will face prosecution accordingly upon completion of the inquiry. (NAN)
