In her statement, Haruna admitted to selling over 42 children, primarily aged between 7 and 12, to various clients in Lagos for child labor. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and stated that three underage children were rescued from the suspect during the operation.
Hundeyin explained that the suspect, identified as the leader of a child trafficking syndicate, was apprehended after a discreet three-month investigation. The police had been tracking the syndicate since receiving information about its illicit activities.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect was wanted by the Kwara State Police Command in connection to the disappearance of several underage children. The Anti-Human Trafficking unit of the Kwara State Police Command had linked the missing children to Haruna’s syndicate.
During the arrest, three underage children—two females and one male—ages 12 and 7, were rescued. The suspect revealed the locations where she allegedly kept other missing children, and efforts are underway to rescue them. The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the recovery of some children, but approximately 11 others are still unaccounted for. Coordination with the Anti-Trafficking unit of the Kwara State Command is ongoing to address the case comprehensively.
