Arrest Made In Ogun As Mother Accused Of Drowning Five-Month-Old Baby In River

On Sunday, the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of 30-year-old Olubunmi Ajayi for allegedly attempting to drown her five-month-old baby, Imole Anifowose, in the RSS River in Sagamu. The incident unfolded on January 21, 2024, around 5:30 pm, when a concerned individual witnessed Ajayi dropping her infant into the river. Acting swiftly, Olusola Sonaya rushed to the scene, preventing the baby from drowning. Imole Anifowose was promptly taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for urgent medical attention and, at the time of the report, was in stable condition.

The police statement noted, “The mother has been apprehended and is currently under observation to ascertain her mental health.” Authorities are actively reaching out to the woman’s relatives or her husband to facilitate the proper welfare and care for the baby in the hospital. The incident is being treated as an attempted murder case, and investigations are ongoing to understand the motive behind the disturbing act.
