As PDP Bows Out Of Peace Talks, Akpakomiza Stands Tall As The People’s Choice For A Peaceful Election....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The refusal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)== and its leadership to sign the peace accord ahead of the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State is a stark reminder of the party’s alleged propensity for violence and unrest. This incident has vindicated those who have consistently accused the PDP of fostering a culture of violence among Edo citizens.
The peace accord, although lacking constitutional backing, has become an essential component of Nigeria’s electoral process. It serves as a reminder to politicians and their followers of the need to maintain peace during elections. The accord encourages individuals to refrain from violence and explore legal channels to express grievances.
The presence of notable figures such as General Abdusalami Abubakar, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun at the signing ceremony underscores the importance of maintaining peace. However, the PDP’s failure to participate in the exercise raises questions about their commitment to peaceful elections.
Governor Godwin Obaseki’s grievances regarding the arrest of PDP faithfuls and the proscription of the Edo Security Network cannot justify his withdrawal as the police’s efforts to streamline security apparatus for efficiency should be supported. Security is a collective responsibility, and the governor should not only cooperate but display a burden of responsibility to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
Despite attempts to denigrate his person and ambition, Senator Monday Okpebholo (Akpakomiza) has emerged as a champion of peace by signing the peace accord on September 12, 2024. His commitment to a peaceful election is a testament to his dedication to the people. Therefore, the opposition should respectfully support his candidacy and vote for him, as governance is ultimately about serving the people.
By choosing peace over violence, Akpakomiza has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to the well-being of Edo citizens. When you vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo and the APC, you are voting for peace. End
