Atiku Abubakar Clarifies Stance Amidst Defection Reports: ‘I’m Not Leaving PDP

In a statement released on Friday, Atiku described himself as a “bona fide and loyal member” of the PDP, condemning the circulating claims as false. According to Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, the rumors were the work of “desperate politicians” behind a deliberate smear campaign.

The reports, which surfaced on a Facebook page, falsely claimed that Atiku had stepped down from the PDP. Atiku quickly dismissed these claims as a “malicious lie” and part of a political scheme aimed at damaging his reputation.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Atiku emphasized that such baseless rumors would not distract him from his commitment to the party and its mission. He also made it clear that the ongoing efforts to spread misinformation would not sway his political activities or loyalty.

The statement read, “We ordinarily would not respond to faceless social media platforms like the so-called ‘Adamawa Happenings.’ However, due to inquiries from concerned Nigerians and credible members of the press, we feel compelled to set the record straight: His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007) and PDP Presidential Candidate, has not—repeat, has not—resigned from the PDP. He remains a committed, bona fide, and loyal member of the party.

“The source of this baseless rumor is a Facebook page spreading falsehoods, clearly orchestrated by desperate political operatives with malicious intent. This is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create confusion among Nigerians who look to Atiku Abubakar for leadership. This is not just fake news—it’s a shameless political attack.

“We urge Nigerians, especially supporters of Waziri Adamawa, to disregard this malicious fabrication. It is a vile and contemptible ploy.

“Atiku Abubakar remains steadfast in his commitment to the ideals of the PDP and the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people.”
