Atiku Discusses Plans To Step Back From Political Life

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has firmly stated that he has no intention of retiring from active politics. The former vice president made this declaration during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Friday in Abuja.

Refuting claims that he would retire after the 2023 presidential election, Atiku, also known as the Turaki of Adamawa, dismissed these rumors as mere fantasies. He emphasized his long-standing commitment to combating injustice and poor governance, drawing on his history of opposing various military regimes.

Atiku reassured that his continued political engagement does not hinder younger politicians from pursuing the presidency or other elective positions. He stated, “We fiercely fought even the military governments, let alone the civilian administrations. So, if you’re thinking otherwise, you might be dreaming. We would never retrace from fighting injustice and bad governance. I am not yet tired of political activism.”

He added, “Yes, we can’t keep quiet and watch things go wrong. People are suffering, and we are committed to making Nigeria a better place.”

Addressing concerns about his age, Atiku affirmed, “It means you are not tired of the politics of Nigeria? Not at all. I am still in active politics in Nigeria, at least, as long as God permits. My age doesn’t stop the young ones from testing their fate. Everybody, irrespective of age, is allowed to aspire to be anybody in society, politically or otherwise.”

This announcement underscores Atiku’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s political landscape and his determination to continue fighting for justice and good governance.
