Atiku Rebukes Wike For ‘Insensitive’ Remarks On 2027 Presidency

Published

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to focus on addressing the current challenges of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration rather than discussing the 2027 elections.

This comes after Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, declared that his principal would thwart Atiku’s 2027 presidential bid, just as he had in 2023. Olayinka’s remarks followed Atiku’s recent statement expressing no regrets for not choosing Wike as his running mate during the 2023 presidential race.

Atiku’s aide, Paul Ibe, responded by pointing out that it is premature and insensitive for Wike to be focused on 2027 while President Tinubu’s administration struggles to deliver on its current mandate. Ibe emphasized that Atiku is more concerned with nation-building and the pressing issues facing Nigeria today, such as the cost of living, and urged Wike and his allies to focus on improving the present rather than dwelling on the future.
