Shaibu, reacting to Onanuga’s post on X, reminded him of his past reputation as a fearless journalist who once stood up to military dictatorship and spoke truth to power.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

However, Shaibu lamented that Onanuga has abandoned that legacy. He accused him of now siding with a government whose oppressive policies mirror the very tyranny he once resisted.

“Bayo, you were once a symbol of resistance during the June 12 struggle through TheNews and Tempo,” Shaibu wrote. “You earned a place in history for challenging authoritarian rule. But today, you no longer defend the people. Instead, you champion policies that worsen poverty, excuse failure, and promote dictatorship. You’ve become a mouthpiece for a regime that mocks the very spirit of June 12.”

He argued that honoring Onanuga under the banner of June 12 is a betrayal of the memories of true martyrs like Kudirat Abiola, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and Alfred Rewane.

“June 12 wasn’t just a date—it was a moral stand. It symbolized defiance against oppression and commitment to the people’s will,” Shaibu said. “Honour belongs to those who uphold those values, even when power tempts them to do otherwise.”

He concluded sharply: “You may have started as a champion of democracy, Bayo, but today, you stand on the wrong side. You don’t deserve a national honor—you deserve a badge of betrayal.”
