Francis Okoye Obinna, a 22-year-old individual, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Edo State Police Command following the discovery of arms and ammunition in his possession.

Chidi Nwabuzor, spokesperson for the command, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, April 15, 2024. According to Nwabuzor, the arrest occurred during a routine stop and search operation along the Benin-Lagos expressway.

The suspect was found with a Brownie Pistol, 9 rounds of 6mm ammunition, and a point-of-sale (POS) machine. Nwabuzor’s statement detailed the circumstances of the arrest, indicating that Obinna, who was traveling from Lagos to Anambra State, was intercepted by Edo State Command operatives on April 7, 2024.

“In his possession, the following items were discovered during the search: a Brownie Pistol with breach No. PZ1833, 9 rounds of 6mm ammunition, and a POS Machine,” the statement read.

Obinna reportedly confessed that he had been given the firearm by an individual named Emma in Lagos, allegedly to intimidate someone he accused of causing his father’s death through mystical means in Anambra State.

However, subsequent investigations revealed inconsistencies in Obinna’s claims. The police launched further inquiries, including a visit to Lagos, to ascertain the veracity of his statements and uncover the origins and purposes of the seized items.

Nwabuzor emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing to determine the full extent of Obinna’s involvement and the motives behind his possession of the gun and POS machine.
