Authorities Arrest Suspected Prostitution Ringleader, Rescue Girls

The Nigerian Commission in Ghana has successfully rescued 11 teenage girls trafficked into the country for prostitution and has taken them into custody. The Commission also confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, who deceived the girls into traveling to Ghana under the guise of working at a restaurant.

Acting High Commissioner lfedayo Moses Adeoye disclosed these developments in a memo signed at the Nigeria High Commission in Accra, Ghana. The victims, aged between 14 and 18 years, were rescued on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Wiennbba, Central Region, Ghana, by officials of the Nigerian diaspora organization, Ghana Chapter, led by its President, Prince Olayemi Akinwande. They are currently being housed at No. 15, Circular Road, Cantonment, Accra, where they are receiving support, care, counseling, and food provided by the mission.

Mr. Adeoye also announced the arrest of the alleged kingpin of human trafficking, Mr. Chukwudi Virginus Nwachukwu, who is detained at the Ghana Police headquarters in Accra. The High Commission has taken custody of his passport. Police authorities are conducting investigations, and upon completion, the High Commission will arrange for the victims to reunite with their families in Nigeria.

Investigations revealed that the victims were deceived by the trafficker’s promises of restaurant jobs. It is noteworthy that none of the victims possessed international passports. They claimed they were transported by boat from mile 2 waterside in Lagos to Porto-Novo, from where they were transported by road to Ghana.
