Baba-Ahmed made the disclosure during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

According to him, both politicians were concerned about whether the party could guarantee them the presidential and vice-presidential tickets ahead of the elections.

“Well, they had issues about whether the party can guarantee that they emerge as presidential and vice-presidential candidates,” he said.

He further explained that Obi and Kwankwaso also sought assurances that several strategic party positions would be reserved for members of their political structures if they joined the PRP.

“They had questions about whether we could guarantee that a huge number of places could be made available to them because they are coming into our party with a movement,” Baba-Ahmed stated.

The PRP chairman also noted that the two politicians were uncomfortable with the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in recognising the party’s national executive.

“They also had issues with the fact that INEC deliberately refused to upload our new executive, me and my colleagues, for a long time,” he added.

According to Baba-Ahmed, the uncertainty surrounding the party’s recognition by INEC contributed to their decision to move on.

“I think they were right because it created concerns that we had a problem with INEC. So they moved on,” he said.
