Last month, bandits abducted his daughter from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma. After receiving the ransom, the bandits released his daughter but kept Garba captive.
He was held for 18 days, during which the bandits demanded an additional N5 million. His family discovered on Sunday, August 4, that he had been killed 17 days earlier.
Garba’s son, Funtua, confirmed the news in a Facebook post: “It is with total submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that I announce the death of my father Alh. Abubakar Garba Gardi Funtua. He was killed by the bandits who kidnapped my sister last month. Jana’iza will be held tomorrow, 5/08/2024, at his residence in Gangaren Tasaulawa Funtua by 9 am, inshaAllah.
