The tragic incident unfolded in two distinct regions of Kaduna State, with Igabi situated in the northern part and Kauru in the southern axis.
Details reveal that within Kauru LGA, six individuals lost their lives, five were abducted, and two sustained injuries. In Igabi LGA, the toll was equally grim, with three fatalities, seven injuries, and a staggering 30 individuals taken captive.
Southern Kaduna Peoples Union verified the distressing news, indicating that approximately 50 residents fell into the hands of the marauders, among them a retired CBN director.
While the state government, through its Commissioner Overseeing Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, acknowledged the incident, specifics regarding the casualties and abductees in Igabi and Kauru LGAs remained undisclosed.
Governor Uba Sani swiftly denounced the attack and extended condolences to the affected families. He urged for intensified military operations against bandits throughout the state in response to the assaults in Igabi and Kauru LGAs. These sentiments were conveyed by the Overseeing Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, during an onsite evaluation of security conditions in Gwada and Kerawa villages in Igabi LGA.
According to sources, the onslaught occurred on Friday night, minutes after 10 p.m. Bandits descended upon a family residence, where they abducted both a brother and his spouse. Tragically, as residents attempted to intervene, the bandits unleashed gunfire, claiming the lives of six individuals on the spot and leaving six others wounded.
Among the deceased were Danmasani Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata. The abducted included Zakariya Markus (retired CBN director), Monday Markus (brother of the retired CBN staff), Mrs. Monday Markus (wife of Monday), Alhamdu Makeri’s son, and Baban Fati of Kauru, alongside several others.
SOKAPU spokesman Josiah Yusuf Abraks condemned the heinous attacks, urging the government to intensify efforts to quell the violence in Southern Kaduna.
Efforts to obtain further details from the Kaduna State Police Command proved futile at the time of contact.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani reiterated his condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated the call for robust military actions against bandits in response to the egregious assaults in Igabi and Kauru LGAs.
