The governor picked up his nomination form in Abuja on Thursday shortly after attending the party’s National Executive Committee meeting.
The meeting was attended by the party’s National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, alongside other top officials of the APM.
Speaking during the gathering, Mohammed criticised the current political environment, alleging that unfair political practices and intimidation had made governance difficult for many leaders.
He explained that his decision to align with the APM was driven by the party’s principles, which he said focus on fairness, justice, inclusiveness, internal democracy and respect for the rule of law.
Mohammed also revealed that he did not make the move alone, noting that several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined him in defecting to the APM.
According to him, those who moved with him include lawmakers, state assembly members, local government officials, commissioners, party executives and grassroots supporters.
The governor said he left the PDP in pursuit of better political representation for his supporters and constituents. Prior to his exit, he served as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Mohammed is no stranger to the Senate, having previously represented Bauchi South Senatorial District in 2007 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
He later served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in 2010 before eventually joining the PDP.
