The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in a motorcycle theft in the Gidan Ruwa vicinity of the state.
As per SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the command’s spokesperson, the suspects made away with a motorcycle valued at N400,000 and sold it for N100,000.
The suspects, as stated by the PPRO, utilized the proceeds from the sale to book a hotel room in Bauchi for one night with their partners, along with purchasing substances like cigarettes and codeine syrup.
Wakil further mentioned that diligent investigative work led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle, a fabricated metal tool, and a sum of nine thousand naira from the suspects.
“The commitment of our operatives to intelligence-driven policing, aimed at securing public spaces and thwarting criminal activities in the state, is unwavering,” the statement read.
Upon receiving information about the theft on March 15, 2024, the Area Commander Metropolitan swiftly dispatched operatives to the scene, initiating an investigation. This effort culminated in the arrest of three prime suspects: Yusuf Adamu (Dan Sarki), Mohammed Sanusi, and Masa’ud Ibrahim.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using a fabricated metal object, colloquially known as “Kati or Chori,” to bypass the motorcycle’s ignition. They admitted to selling the stolen motorcycle for N100,000.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects divided the proceeds among themselves, with one accomplice who remains at large taking thirty thousand naira, while the arrested suspects shared seventy thousand naira. They spent the money on a hotel stay and purchased illicit substances for their companions.
Additionally, it was discovered that two of the arrested suspects were previously on court bail for similar offenses, while another had a prior conviction for breach of trust and cheating but was granted state pardon in 2022.
