Bauchi Police Withdraw Wanted Notice For Islamic Cleric Following Ribadu’s Intervention

The Bauchi State Police Command has retracted the wanted notice concerning Malam Idris Abdulaziz, an Islamic cleric based in Bauchi, citing ‘contempt of court’, following the intervention of Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, NSA.

Earlier, the police, acting under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, had issued a Special Gazette Bulletin on February 8, 2024, urging individuals with information regarding the whereabouts of the 63-year-old cleric to contact the State Police Command or the nearest police station.

However, yesterday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammad, facilitated a peace agreement signed between Abdulaziz and the Bauchi State Government at the police state headquarters.

The peace pact was endorsed by the Director of the Department of State Services, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Bauchi State, as per a statement released on Wednesday by the police command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakili.

In the statement, it was conveyed that “the Commissioner of Police, as the Chairman of the Security and Allied Agency in Bauchi State, resolved to address the identified communication gap among other factors responsible for deteriorating relations between the parties without hesitation.”

The statement further expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir for heeding the call for peace and emphasized the commitment of all involved parties to adhere to the terms of the peace pact.

Malam Idris Abdulaziz Dutsen Tanshi was reminded to exercise his freedom of speech responsibly, refraining from using the pulpit to insult or make derogatory remarks against other preachers or clerics. Instead, he was encouraged to promote peace and harmony within the community through his preaching, regardless of differing opinions or religious beliefs. It was emphasized that respecting constituted authority is imperative going forward.
