In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Ayibaina Duba, the government of Bayelsa State expressed concern that the attack on the community might be linked to the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.

This suspicion revolves around the intentions of certain unpopular politicians who may seek to exert their influence over the electorate in the area.

The state government has urged the inhabitants of Bassambiri in the Nembe local government area and all residents of the state to maintain tranquility, as it collaborates with the police and other relevant agencies to ensure that the individuals responsible for this reprehensible act are brought to justice.

Additionally, the Bayelsa State administration has called upon the Inspector-General of Police to initiate an immediate investigation aimed at uncovering the identities of the criminals and their potential backers who have been undermining public order in the Nembe area.
