Onanuga emphasized that since Obi has publicly supported the protest, he should take a prominent role to help manage and mitigate any potential excesses. “Peter Obi should lead the protest just as Tinubu and Buhari did in the past. True leadership involves being in the forefront, not merely orchestrating from behind the scenes,” Onanuga wrote.

Peter Obi, who has acknowledged that protests are constitutionally permitted in Nigeria, has supported the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10. In a recent interview with Channels TV after visiting Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Obi urged protesters to remain peaceful and called on security agencies to enforce the law fairly and avoid excessive actions. He identified the prevailing issues of hunger and hopelessness as key drivers of the protest.
