The wedding took place on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Reports indicate that Bala-Usman married Alhaji Shehu Dikko in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The private ceremony was held at the Zaria residence of her late father, renowned historian Professor Yusuf Bala Usman, and was attended by close family members and a small circle of associates.
At 50, Bala-Usman is known for maintaining a high level of privacy around her personal life, despite her prominent public service roles.
She was previously married to economist Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, a former Chief Economic Adviser to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Their union produced two children.
Born on January 2, 1976, Bala-Usman is the daughter of the late Professor Yusuf Bala Usman. She studied Business Administration at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later earned a master’s degree in Development Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
Her career spans civil society engagement and public sector reform before she joined government service. She later served as Chief of Staff to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, where she was instrumental in policy formulation and governance.
In 2016, she was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, becoming the first woman to occupy the position, a role she held until 2021.
In 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed her as Special Adviser on Policy Coordination.
