Benue Bloodshed: Alia Under Fire As PDP Demands Truth, Not Tales

Governor Alia, during a recent appearance on Channels Television, alleged that high-ranking politicians in Abuja and the National Assembly were behind the violence in Benue, accusing them of supporting and enabling the perpetrators of the crisis.

In response, the PDP’s Benue chapter, through a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, condemned the governor’s claims as a reckless attempt at political diversion. The party said Alia’s remarks were not only irresponsible but dangerously shifted attention away from the real security solutions needed in the state.

The PDP pointed out that previous administrations, including those of Samuel Ortom and Gabriel Suswam, confronted the situation directly and identified the culprits — armed herdsmen — without resorting to finger-pointing.

Describing Governor Alia’s approach to insecurity as lacking in logic and seriousness, the party challenged him to submit a comprehensive security report to the relevant federal authorities instead of engaging in “baseless propaganda.”

While noting that the governor may enjoy constitutional immunity, the PDP reminded him that the Abuja politicians he accused do not, and that such allegations should not be made without concrete evidence.

The statement continued:
“Benue’s security crisis is not unique — neighbouring states like Plateau and Taraba face similar threats. Yet, their leaders have responded with maturity and action, not political theatrics.”

The PDP criticized Alia for alternating between blaming Abuja figures, foreign elements, and other scapegoats rather than tackling the core issues behind the insecurity. It asked whether similar attacks in Plateau, Enugu, or Taraba are also being sponsored by Abuja politicians — suggesting that Alia’s claims may be rooted more in politics than in truth.

“The reality is that these herdsmen attacks have long plagued Benue, spanning past administrations. Instead of providing clear-headed leadership, Governor Alia has chosen to fuel confusion through falsehoods and accusations,” the statement added.

The party urged the governor to rise above partisan blame, and instead embrace honest, inclusive, and strategic solutions that address the state’s security concerns.

“At a time like this, Benue needs a leader who is not only politically aware but also morally grounded. It is time for Governor Alia to demonstrate responsibility, integrity, and the unity of purpose that the situation desperately demands,” the PDP concluded.
