Benue Under Siege: Governor Laments Rising Death Toll, Seeks FG Intervention

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has urgently called on the Federal Government to step up efforts in addressing the rising insecurity in the state, as the death toll from recent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo local government areas has reached 56.

Governor Alia made the plea on Saturday after visiting the sites of the horrific attacks in Ukum and Logo to assess the damage and impact on the communities.

The attacks, which have claimed the lives of dozens, have sparked widespread outrage and fear among residents.

Speaking to the press after his visit, Alia condemned the violent assault on innocent civilians, describing it as senseless and barbaric. He called for a more proactive approach from security agencies to prevent further killings and chaos in the region.

The governor stressed the need for the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action to address the increasing threat posed by armed herdsmen in the state.

During his visit, Alia also met with community leaders, assuring them that the state government would continue to work relentlessly towards finding lasting solutions to the security challenges plaguing the region.

He urged for unity among the people of Benue in overcoming the ongoing security crisis.

In addition to urging stronger action from security forces, the governor called on the people of Benue to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

To reassure the affected communities, additional security measures have been implemented in the Sankera axis, where the attacks occurred.

Furthermore, emergency relief services and essential supplies have been sent to Ukum and Logo local government areas to support the victims and provide immediate assistance to displaced residents.
