Betrayal Unmasked: Man Kidnaps Close Friend, Demands ₦5.3 Million Ransom In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his friend by a criminal gang in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area.

According to information gathered by PUNCH Online, Victor conspired with his gang to abduct the victim and successfully extorted a ransom of approximately ₦5.3 million, paid in foreign currency, before releasing him.

In a statement released on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that police operatives from the Uli Divisional Headquarters arrested Victor on Friday. He is currently assisting the authorities with valuable information to track down his accomplices.

Part of the statement reads:
“On the evening of June 26, 2025, officers from Uli Division arrested Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, 24, in connection with a reported kidnapping case. Investigations revealed that the suspect masterminded the abduction and received a ransom amounting to the naira equivalent of $5.3 million with his gang.”

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to luring his friend under the guise of visiting another acquaintance, only to have him kidnapped. To avoid suspicion, Victor even feigned being a fellow victim in the abduction.”

The statement added that Victor is cooperating with investigators and will be prosecuted once the probe is completed.
